4.07 Detroit, MI Pontiac Silverdome

autor: Duane Roy
Mudvayne opened the show, a good attempt, their brand of music isn't really "stadium" stuff but they tried hard. Deftones were next, not bad but not great. Linkin Park got the whole place jumping, a lot of LP fans around, they put on a good show. Limp Bizkit was next, Fred and the boys put on a hell of a show, they also did a great version of "Sanitarium", and The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes". Durst ran around the floor of the Silverdome generally giving the security people a heart attack.
Then there's Metallica. At around 9:15, "Ecstasy of Gold" started, complete with video clips from "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". All the sweaty Metallica fans went nuts, the roar from the crowd was incredible.
Here's the set-list
Battery - amazing
Master of Puppets - the full song, unreal.
Harvester of Sorrow - the heavy crunch was killer.
Sanitarium - makes LB's attempt look like shit.
Bellz - Rob's intro was great (the video screen showed a few shots of Cliff during this)
Frantic - St. Anger stuff live is wicked, take listen any St. Anger haters.
Sad But True - James sang it without the band at first to get the crowd pumped.......it worked.
St Anger. - Amazing...fast & heavy, with cool video clips added
Fuel - James got the crowd going with a "Gimme an M..a..E..a.T a......Gimme Fuel, Gimme Fire." Wicked pyro effects with huge fireballs coming from the stage. The heat could be felt all the way across the Silverdome.
Seek & Destroy - Anything from the KEA era is excellent and this was MOST excellent.
Blackened - Justice stuff seems a lot better live than on cd, huge fireballs again.......friggin' cool.
Encore: No Remorse - Came out great, great crowd reaction.
Nothing Else Matters - A simple electric version, James did a great solo.
Creeping Death - The crowd went nuts, the "Die" section was very loud with everyone screaming. Lots of video on the screens for this one, old Metallica pics with Mustaine/McGovney/Burton, lots of Jason pictures, a pictorial history up to St. Anger days.
2 nd Encore: One - A huge, loud pyro display, maybe the best song of the night?
Enter Sandman - Everyone knew the words, the singing was as loud as the band.
A wicked start to the "S.S. Tour", Metallica is the greatest band in the world and it shows when they play live. Rob is very good, and prowls the stage like he's been there forever. James seemed to play on the stage behind Lars quite a bit, maybe trying to downplay himself a little and give the boys a chance for a bit more light? Lars and Kirk played awesome and Kirk fills Jason's shoes for background vocals quite well.
Spend the money and go see Metallica, they rule.

5.07 Toronto, Canada Skydome

autor: Nelson Alcaraz

I just want to share my Summer Sanitarium experience w/ you guys. The Toronto date was sold out and the venue (Skydome) was fully packed. I also would like to commend the performaces of Mudvayne, Deftones, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, it was definitely worth every penny of thee ticket price. Limp Bizkit also did their rendition of "Sanitarium" which was just fine.
As always Metallica opened up with The Good, The Bad And The Ugly soundtrack complete with movie clip. After a brief pause "Battery" first off the block followed by "Master of Puppets". The introduction of bassist Rob was made formal and followed by "For whom the bell tolls".
The guys were great, the set was great too because they allowed the guys to roam left and right and really got the crowd involved. Lots of pyro and fireworks too during the show. Standing in the front row, left of the stage I could really feel the heat of the flames they put up during "Fuel".
The new bassist Rob, was furious, excellent on For Whom the bell tolls. The other three were just as awesome. Although the guys said they were having problems with power/sound during their performance, overall it was one hell of a show once again. Oh Yeah!

6.07 Foxboro, MA Gillette Stadium

autor: Pat Hustus
James introduced himself and the other members of the band, when he got to Rob, he said this was the newest member of the Metallica family and he was gonna show us what he could do. Rob began a killer bass solo, and on the screens in the background was none other than the clips of the great Cliff Burton, on Cliff em' All playing For Whom The Bell Tolls, while Rob played, the screens were switching back and forth between Cliff and Rob. It was a very emotionally moving sight to see. After the solo the show continued.
So that's the show, it was the first time I saw Metallica, and was the best thing I ever saw.

8.07 East Rutherford, NJ Giants Stadium

autor: Carlos Villegas

I would like to say that i attended the Sanitarium show in East Rutherford, NJ and it was by far the best Metallica show i have ever been to. The guys were playing as if they 20 again and it just blew me away.
Everybody chanted the lyrics to Frantic and to Saint Anger so i take it that everyone likes the new album, i must say Limp Bizkit played their reenactment of Sanitarium just like on the Icon show. Metallica came on with "Battery" and ended with "Sandman". It was just so amazing to see them again.
I was really glad they decided to play Master of Puppets in its entirety. Interlude and everything. Something really cool that happened was that Lars before they began playing "Nothing Else Matters", he took kirk's pick and stood beside him and picked the open sting notes for the beginning of the song. Then Kirk pushed him away and took Lar's drum stick and picked the same notes with the drum stick. They are just so amazing.
Frantic and St. Anger sound so amazing live, way better than the dvd. At the end of the show, James and Lars said into the mics, see you indoors in March. Hopefully, they will play at the Garden this time. METALLICA still has it in them, they are still so fucking amazing. I am glad to have been a part of that.

11.07 Atlanta, GA Turner Field

It was, as always, a "frantastic" show! As stage was cleaned up after Limp Bizkit, lights went out, and Morricone's Extasy of Gold started the madness (as usual), accompanied by the video clip from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly".
"Batter" was the first one to kick ass. What an excellent start! Crowd got engaged in rhythm and energy right away. When you thought it couldn't get better, Master blew the scene away. Out of four live concerts I've seen, it was the first time I heard them play this song from the beginning to the end, not cutting out a single note.
The "classic" songs kept coming and coming. At one point, before starting playing the Bell, James introduced Metallica members to the crowd (which I don't think was necessary), including a new member, Rob Trujillo. Crowd accepted him very well. He started playing bass solo (very short), which grew into the Bell. As he was playing the intro, suddenly on the background screens appeared a video clip of Cliff playing solo (I think from their tour in Moscow), and that made crowd go nuts. Everyone still remembers him and his immeasurable talent.
When James pulled out his black diamon-plated guitar, we knew it was time for some heavy shit (that's his tuned-down guitar) - yes, Sad But True. At one point, towards the end of the show, while having a blitz-break, Lars took Kirk's pick and played few notes from the Nothing Else Matters intro. Then, Kirk got Lars' drumstick, and continued playing it (basically, beating on strings with it). It was very cool.
Almost two minutes of heavy "explosions" and pyros preceded the One, which was the peak, in my opinion. It 'blew' everyone away. Tallica boyz didn't give us a break - every song was better than the previous one.
James was as good as always. But if you've seen him at least ten years ago, live, you'll be able to tell that his age is starting to show. But don't get me wrong, he still is the best live performer ever. Kirk is as dedicated as he used to be, along with Lars. Rob's great guy, definitely worthy of being part of Metallica family, but his low walk as he's playing the bass, may remind you of an ape :-)
